A HEART FOR SERVICE

LP has always believed in giving back. He served as President of the Black Student Union and the Black Cultural Program Committee at CSULB and has remained active in a wide range of community organizations.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

LP has a longstanding commitment to uplifting his community, beginning with volunteering for the Long Beach Community Improvement League while at CSULB. As a Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. through the Chi Beta Undergraduate Chapter, he has held pivotal leadership roles, including 2nd Vice District Representative and Undergraduate Intermediate Representative At-Large of the 12th District. LP is an active member of the Positive Black Brothers in the Inglewood Graduate Chapter (PBB) and continues to make a powerful impact through ongoing service with Black Men Build (BMB), an organization dedicated to empowering young men in self-respect, self-esteem, mental wellness, and self-determination.

ADVOCACY & EMPOWERMENT

LP is a dynamic leader and dedicated member of the California Association of Black Correctional Workers (ABCW), serving simultaneously as State Vice President, State Parliamentarian, and Los Angeles Chapter President. His commitment extends to Black Advocates in State Services (BASS), where he actively contributes as both a State and Local Board member. LP’s leadership shows his commitment to advocacy, equity, and supporting others in the correctional and state service communities.

FAITH & FAMILY

LP is a licensed minister with the West Angeles Church of God in Christ and an active member of Christ Second Baptist Church in Long Beach, where he serves as the director for “In His Image Men’s Ministry Empowerment” (INHIMM), supporting men’s holistic well-being, personal growth, and faith in the community.

Above all, LP treasures his family: his wife, Sharisse Henson; his daughter, Tynia Henson, who graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; his son, Ijau Henson, who graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV); and his grandson, Kaisen Arnel Henson-Neely.
